Wave Theory...Yesterday's Best Song Ever...
Friday, June 6, 2008 at 18:37 Picture this: water at a standstill, its surface perfectly tranquil. Now picture droplets disturbing the surface sending ripples to the edges, each getting smaller as it moves outward before eventually being refracted at the side walls and dying out. And now picture droplets from two separate sources generating a complex surface pattern from the interaction of the ripples of each - one that varies depending on the frequency of the disturbances at play, the size (mass) of the droplets, as well any existing damping factors amongst others.
The consideration is that seemingly complex situations can result from the interaction of several somewhat minor non-mutually exclusive events; the “Butterfly Effect” if you will that is perhaps best demonstrated in math by a Fourier analysis, or in this case by the principle of superposition as applied to wave theory. And if one cared to, this principle could be used to help understand the dynamics of human interaction as well.
So, yea, a simple interaction: a gesture, a phone call, or a few seconds of your time could mean the world to someone else, especially if they’re having a bad day – and their reaction to that could possibly make yours a brilliant one. Cos’ when you’re down and out, crashed even, really and truly that’s all you need to turn things around.
