The Heart of the Matter

It's strange how stupid little things can stress us out - some with consequences so negligible but still we find ourselves obsessing about them for reasons unknown. And it's strange all the nonsensical routines we employ to deal with that stress - at times I clean house or disappear for hours on end. We've all been there in some form or fashion and sometimes are unable to figure out why.

Truth is there's always logic in there, somewhere, and appreciating it requires us to not accept everything at face value - it's especially important to be able to read between the lines where ourselves or a loved one is concerned. Activities like these are merely distractions from a bothersome subject or a means to help us focus on it. Cries for help are not always audible.

So, ya, whilst at university I always took a few hours to clean the house especially around exams because that ritual somehow helped me to discard my mental clutter, and my habitually getting lost for extended periods was necessary for me to make sense of whatever it was I was going through. The key really is to understand the 'why' behind the activity for one to deal with it and that's not always easy; some people never get that far. But you gotta at least try - cos' the thing is that whilst it may be acceptable to not quite make sense of everything in this life, it would be a real tragedy to not make sense of yourself.
