Generations
Sunday, October 19, 2008 at 7:58 At some point we all would like to believe that we could do better than those before us, that mistakes would not be repeated, that we would offer the necessary patience, time, and understanding to others because we know what it was to be denied; that we would not embrace for ourselves the petty and foolish behaviour normally expected of them. And I made a conscious choice several years ago to distance myself from those lesser minds and their childish musings because I will not entertain similar conduct.
But part of that philosophy involves knowing when to relax those very restrictions - and looking around now I see that the children are faring far better than their parents ever cared to. This uncharacteristic wisdom pervading the youth is a concept alien to the older folk. Sans rivalry, there are only light-hearted interactions that I myself am generally unaccustomed to. The seeds of openness, consideration, and maturity took root in place of mistrust and discontent in this, the generation next, and such is reason for hope. And I actually dare to.
